2026 Winners Announced

Dancing At Dawn – Parfum Extrait – River Rose Co

FINALIST
Best Natural Perfume – Floral 2025

$44.00

Dancing at Dawn is a vegan, sustainable natural perfume featuring fresh botanicals and floral notes of Honeysuckle and Rose Damask, complemented by grounding Rosewood and Sandalwood. It offers a serene, uplifting experience, capturing the essence of morning’s first light while being chemical-free and biodegradable.

Formulated with excellent clean ingredients, including organic ingredients, grown and distilled on their own farm.
River Rose Co exclusively utilises natural or organic ingredients, with about 10% of their botanical ingredients organically grown on their own farm and distilled in copper on fire, aiming to increase this to 50% by the end of 2026. Their only animal-derived ingredient is beeswax from their own hive of healthy bees. The brand does not use any ingredients tested on animals, ensuring ethical sourcing practices by inquiring about suppliers' testing methods. They avoid materials and sources that exploit child labour or slavery and prioritise sourcing from social enterprises that benefit disadvantaged minorities. The packaging is designed for minimal environmental impact, with a majority being recyclable, reusable, biodegradable or compostable. Their ethical foundation includes ongoing education, knowledge of diverse farming methods and sustainable relationships with responsible suppliers, alongside creating low-impact products. The office and production studio operate on a 6kw solar system and most manufacturing occurs by hand. All products are made in Australia, using Australian-grown or made ingredients whenever possible.
River Rose Co uses recyclable, refillable glass bottles for product packaging to minimise environmental impact. The bottles are packaged in pouches made from unbleached cotton fabric remnants and outer packaging consists of recyclable and compostable unbleached kraft boxes. Postal packaging is kept minimal, using recyclable and compostable materials like cardboard mailers and shredded paper. The brand prioritises organic, sustainably sourced botanicals, with some ingredients grown on their own farm. Most energy consumption is powered by renewable solar energy and 100% of water is sourced from rain-harvesting systems. They select suppliers with documented sustainability practices, aim for a zero-waste office and ensure products have a minimal environmental impact throughout their life cycle. Botanical matter and packaging materials are composted, contributing to soil enhancement for future crops. Local sourcing of materials is emphasised to reduce transport miles and support the local economy, exemplified by sourcing organically grown citrus from nearby farms for essential oils.
River Rose Co supports social enterprises by utilising services from groups like the Flagstaff Group, which employs individuals with diverse disabilities and has been commissioned to sew perfume pouches. The brand also contributes to local charities by donating imperfect yet nutritious products to women's refuges such as SAHSSI, which assists vulnerable women and families fleeing domestic violence. Additionally, the brand makes regular donations to charities focused on habitat restoration and the rehabilitation of displaced animals, including the Orangutan Project in Borneo and the Elephant Rescue Sanctuary in Thailand. Furthermore, they collaborate with local growers and gardeners to source botanicals, enhancing community partnerships and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Product Reviews by Experts

Dancing at Dawn opens like morning light through wildflowers- sweet honeysuckle and rose with a crisp botanical edge. It’s bright, almost radiant at first spritz, then softens into warm woods and a hint of spice. While initially strong, it mellows into a grounded, comforting floral. The packaging is simple and sincere, with an artisanal touch that reflects the brand’s thoughtful values. A scent that feels generous, grounding and quietly joyful. River Rose Co brings a rare level of care and integrity to clean fragrance. Many of their botanicals are grown on their own farm and distilled by hand using copper on fire. Their production is solar powered, packaging is recyclable and compostable and ingredients are sourced with social impact in mind. What stands out most is their regular support of animal rescue charities like The Orangutang Project and the Elephant Rescue Sanctuary, which reflects a deeply compassionate and community-driven brand ethos.

I adored this perfume, the scent was both rich but also delicate and very long lasting. It lasted the best on my skin out of all of the fragrances. The bottle was very practical for both travel and to have in your handbag when you are on the go. Over the course of the day the scent developed and settled, slowly revealing the base notes. I also appreciated that the scent is vegan and Australian made from ethically sourced ingredients. The packaging also appeared to be sustainably focused.

I enjoy that it is travel-friendly – very compact and easy to use. I am really impressed that the brand has commissioned Flagstaff Group to do their pouches. A wonderful thought and initiative to support people with disabilities.
