SILVER
Best Natural Perfume – Earthy 2025

$44.00

Daughters of the Earth is a natural perfume that embodies sunlit fields and ancient woods. It features bright Blood Orange and Juniper, a heart of Patchouli and Geranium and a warm base of Tonka Bean, Oakmoss, and Hay Absolute, celebrating nature’s timeless beauty.

Formulated with excellent clean ingredients, including organic ingredients, grown and distilled on their own farm.
River Rose Co exclusively utilises natural or organic ingredients, with about 10% of their botanical ingredients organically grown on their own farm and distilled in copper on fire, aiming to increase this to 50% by the end of 2026. Their only animal-derived ingredient is beeswax from their own hive of healthy bees. The brand does not use any ingredients tested on animals, ensuring ethical sourcing practices by inquiring about suppliers' testing methods. They avoid materials and sources that exploit child labour or slavery and prioritise sourcing from social enterprises that benefit disadvantaged minorities. The packaging is designed for minimal environmental impact, with a majority being recyclable, reusable, biodegradable or compostable. Their ethical foundation includes ongoing education, knowledge of diverse farming methods and sustainable relationships with responsible suppliers, alongside creating low-impact products. The office and production studio operate on a 6kw solar system and most manufacturing occurs by hand. All products are made in Australia, using Australian-grown or made ingredients whenever possible.
River Rose Co uses recyclable, refillable glass bottles for product packaging to minimise environmental impact. The bottles are packaged in pouches made from unbleached cotton fabric remnants and outer packaging consists of recyclable and compostable unbleached kraft boxes. Postal packaging is kept minimal, using recyclable and compostable materials like cardboard mailers and shredded paper. The brand prioritises organic, sustainably sourced botanicals, with some ingredients grown on their own farm. Most energy consumption is powered by renewable solar energy and 100% of water is sourced from rain-harvesting systems. They select suppliers with documented sustainability practices, aim for a zero-waste office and ensure products have a minimal environmental impact throughout their life cycle. Botanical matter and packaging materials are composted, contributing to soil enhancement for future crops. Local sourcing of materials is emphasised to reduce transport miles and support the local economy, exemplified by sourcing organically grown citrus from nearby farms for essential oils.
River Rose Co supports social enterprises by utilising services from groups like the Flagstaff Group, which employs individuals with diverse disabilities and has been commissioned to sew perfume pouches. The brand also contributes to local charities by donating imperfect yet nutritious products to women's refuges such as SAHSSI, which assists vulnerable women and families fleeing domestic violence. Additionally, the brand makes regular donations to charities focused on habitat restoration and the rehabilitation of displaced animals, including the Orangutan Project in Borneo and the Elephant Rescue Sanctuary in Thailand. Furthermore, they collaborate with local growers and gardeners to source botanicals, enhancing community partnerships and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Product Reviews by Experts

Sometimes a scent speaks to you straight away and this was one of those rare, immediate connections. There’s a real narrative unfolding in this fragrance- it feels layered and intimate. The sweetness of blood orange and juniper is balanced so beautifully by the earthier, anchoring notes of patchouli, geranium and oakmoss. It’s not overpowering, but empowering. A joy to wear. It’s clear this brand is going to great lengths to tread lightly and respectfully. I really appreciate the use of recyclable and refillable glass bottles, reclaimed fabric pouches and compostable packaging. The fact that many ingredients are grown on their own farm and that they use solar and rain-harvested water, speaks to a high level of integrity. I also value their support for social enterprises and charities- there’s a strong sense of care running through the way they operate.

What a phenomenal scent. It has such a moreish quality that kept me coming back. When I’d smell it left on a scarf or jacket, it would remind me all over again how unique and magical a fragrance it is. The simple packaging belies the beauty inside- in some ways, I think it had me underestimate how addictive it would be. It is somehow earthy, but musky and spicy and powdery all at the same time and it just inexplicably works. There’s a lovely element of intentionality woven into every aspect of this brand. Their policies have an incredible breadth and depth. That some ingredients are even self-grown is such a beautiful approach. The world is craving this degree of authenticity!

Such a lovely intoxicating scent, I really enjoyed how it softened after wearing for a while. I found the scent had good staying power, which is impressive when using natural ingredients in perfume. There seems to be a lot of detail into packaging, social initiatives and ingredient sourcing. It’s also impressive to hear that they are utilising ingredients that they have grown themselves.
