Lingo was designed with the goal of providing children with sustainable and safe options, emphasising the importance of preserving resources for future generations. The founder selected rubber as a natural, sustainably sourced material that is safe for children, avoiding harsh chemicals that could harm skin. The rubber is biodegradable and sourced from a pre-established farming area in Malaysia, renowned for its quality. Lingo products use food-grade, water-based dyes and are rigorously audited for safety standards by an independent company to ensure compliance globally. The chosen manufacturer in South China is BSCI audited, adheres to fair-trade practices and demonstrates strong human rights ethics, having passed regulatory checks and allowing for factory tours and ongoing monitoring.
Sustainable Practices
Lingo prioritises environmental sustainability in its brand practices, utilising sustainable rubber plants from Malaysia and food-grade dyes in product design, alongside fully recyclable packaging. The natural rubber used is biodegradable, enabling organic decomposition upon disposal. The product's box features a window made from 100% recyclable PET plastic. Additionally, the mailers are constructed from recyclable cardboard and secured with compostable tape, further minimising the brand's environmental footprint in response to societal concerns regarding consumption and waste.
Social Impact
Lingo, a young business, has been donating $1 from every sale to the Red Nose Foundation since February 2024, inspired by the owner's personal experience with stillbirth at 23 weeks and the support received from the organisation. The owner also donated unsellable Lingo the Flamingo teethers to Our Village Australia to help babies and children in need, prioritising sustainability over landfill waste. Additionally, she created a website, Within the Rainbow Journal, to share her story of pregnancy loss and to provide a safe space for others to share their experiences, aiming to build a supportive community for those navigating grief and loss, with many expressing gratitude for her openness.
