Thamnic – Liminus

BRONZE
Best Natural Perfume – Earthy 2025

$55.00

Thamnic features citrus notes of petitgrain and Huon Pine, evolving into a blend of spice, fern and woods. This genderless, natural perfume scent includes tonka bean and vetiver for subtle sweetness and earthiness, inspired by the mossy woods of the Tasmanian Rainforest. Crafted in small batches by Hilary, founder of Liminus.

Formulated with excellent clean ingredients.
Liminus handcrafts all products in small batches in Tasmania, Australia, sourcing materials from local farmers, sustainable wild harvesting and ensuring ethical supply chains. Every perfume features Tasmanian ingredients and the brand maintains transparency in labeling, allowing customers to see all ingredients, which are botanical and vegan. In 2024, Liminus received the “Tasmanian” Brand Mark, highlighting their commitment to quality and local production. As a female-led business, the brand supports other female-led and locally owned enterprises within their supply chain, promoting job growth and community investment.
Liminus packaging utilises environmentally friendly materials, including FSC® certified, CO2 neutral card stock for outer boxes and reusable, refillable aluminium atomisers for their Alba product. Stickers are printed on eco-vinyl made from PET, which decomposes faster than traditional PVC and emits fewer chemicals. Off-cuts from printing are repurposed into note cards and customer orders are packed with recycled and salvaged wrap. The brand employs small-batch production to minimise waste and offers zero waste perfume refills, donating $5 to the Tasmanian Land Conservancy for each refill sold. Carbon-neutral delivery providers are used and 100% renewable energy powers production. During the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend in 2024, they contributed 10% of sales to the same environmental organisation instead of offering discounts. A redeveloped website highlights their sustainability actions and they engage with customers on social media to share their journey. The brand practices small-scale recycling, recently transforming empty essential oil bottles into smelling salts for repeat customers.
Liminus supports local charities and fundraisers through various product donations, including Archie's 100 for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, Variety Tasmania for disadvantaged children and a raffle for Rose Bay High School to assist with student ticket costs. They contribute to Beyond the Rainbow, which provides care boxes for families experiencing loss and donate $5 to the Tasmanian Land Conservancy for each perfume refill sold. Liminus sources Australian Sandalwood from Dutjahn Sandalwood Oils, a brand recognised for its sustainable practices and profit-sharing with Indigenous communities. Additionally, they engage with local small businesses and women in enterprise events, ensuring their partnerships align with their brand values of creativity and connection.

Product Reviews by Experts

This beautiful natural perfume is smoky and earthy, instantly transporting me to the Tasmanian rainforests that inspired it. There’s a mysterious, otherworldly quality to it- like a key to a place I haven’t been before. I carry it with me through the day; it feels grounding, raw and nurturing, like I’m wrapped in Mother Nature herself. I love how considered every detail of this brand is- from the refillable atomiser to the use of local ingredients and renewable energy. I especially appreciate that $5 from every refill goes to the Tasmanian Land Conservancy- such a beautiful way to honour country. The packaging also feels luxe but low-impact.

There are two elements that really stood out to me with this entry. The first is that the packaging is stunning. The gorgeous box has such a lovely tactile quality, that I didn’t want to throw it away. The second is that the scent itself has such a sense of magic to it. It’s incredibly energising (as well as unique, special and beautiful), so it didn’t surprise me at all that the inspiration was the Tasmanian rainforest- a magical place in itself, that is prone to being really energising and restorative to be in! I loved that I wasn’t trying to find notes in this gorgeously refined perfume. Instead, I experienced it as a whole. How clever a formula it must be to force me to only enjoy it like that. Beautiful! The transparency, small-batch ethos and commitment to local and female-led businesses create a beautifully grounded and clearly values-led brand. There’s such great depth and breadth in these priorities which is just so impressive. What an inspiring business!

The citrus, sandalwood and mossy woods are the stand out notes in this perfume and the sandalwood lingered throughout the day. A go-to for sandalwood lovers. The box and the branding is very pretty and well designed. I love that there’s a bit of a story on the box in relation to the scent. Customers love a perfume story! I love how this brand has their ingredient list clear and detailed on their perfume. Transparency in perfume is hard to come by and they clearly have nothing to hide.
