Best Handmade / Artisan Product 2026

$29.00

Artisan woven hand towels, made ethically by women artisans, featured in Oscars week gift bags in Hollywood. Each towel is made with finest recycled cotton, saving a day’s drinking water for 10 people.

Made from excellent, non-toxic materials. 70% cotton, 30% recycled cotton yarn, yarn dyed with natural colours and treated with natural bio enzyme.
Punar’s handwoven handloom collection products are ethically made by women artisans in India, primarily through women-owned co-operated communities of solo artisans or small enterprises. For large volume orders, SEDEX or fair trade certified factories using certified sustainable fabrics are engaged. The brand conducts detailed supplier interviews and only works with co-operative communities, enterprises and factories that offer a safe and supportive work environment, ensuring equal pay for women artisans and sharing information on makers and materials on their website and socials.
Punar produces products using sustainable, upcycled, recycled and regenerative materials, including handwoven fabrics made from recycled yarn created from textile waste. Since 2022, artisans have handwoven 550 metres of zero emission handloom fabrics, diverting 208 kg of clothing from landfill and saving 750,000 litres of water by using recycled yarn and natural dyes with zero chemicals. Offcuts and leftover fabrics are used for training new textile workers. Large production orders are made with SEDEX and fair trade certified factories supplying certified materials.
Punar collaborates with women-owned and co-operated communities in India, ensuring equal pay for all women working on its collections and providing training in recycled yarn handloom weaving to over a dozen women textile artisans since 2022. The brand partners with Sedex or fair trade certified factories for large orders, supporting community welfare initiatives such as local schools and subsidised health care and consistently supports community initiatives run by the Australia India Business Council, Care India and domestic violence support organisations in Australian South Asian communities.

Product Reviews by Experts

A tea towel has no business being this beautiful, and yet. Handwoven from cotton and recycled yarn, dyed with natural colour and no nasties, it has a soft, substantial weight that makes drying up feel almost ceremonial. Little wonder it turned up in the Oscars gift bags. Everyday luxury, exactly as promised. The whole model is the good bit. Punar, fittingly, means again. The towels are handwoven by women in women-owned co-operatives in India, in small curated batches, using recycled yarn and natural, toxin-free dyes. Craft, women’s livelihoods and low-impact materials braided together. Beautiful and principled in equal measure.

It might look like a small thing, but using this level of sustainable luxury tea towel with its high-quality recycled yarn and zero-toxin status makes me feel I’ve entered an elevated level of my adulthood. We’re used to seeking out these attributes in our garments but having this in a tea towel has rocked my world! The work that Punar does with women-owned co-operated communities of artisans or small enterprises in India really makes me love this brand. They’ve also trained over a dozen women in recycled yarn handloom weaving since 2022, supporting them to secure textile work opportunities. They’re also a massive inspiration regarding sustainability and circularity. Punar creates in small batches and there’s no CO2 emissions in their production. The tea towel fabrics are 100% cotton – 70% cotton and 30% recycled cotton yarn. They use recycled cotton, which uses less water than virgin cotton.

I appreciated the quality and craftsmanship of this tea towel. The natural fabric felt beautifully made and luxurious to use, while the generous size made it practical for everyday use. It is a wonderful example of how an everyday household essential can feel both functional and special. I was impressed by the brand’s commitment to supporting women artisans while preserving traditional handloom weaving techniques. Their investment in recycled yarn training, zero-electricity production, fair pay, responsible manufacturing and textile recycling demonstrates a genuine commitment to improving both environmental and social outcomes. I also appreciate that they have considered the entire lifecycle of their products, from responsible production through to end-of-life recycling.
