Merineo uses natural, ethically grown fibers, with merino wool as its core material in all products. The brand sources fabric for its pure merino baby bodysuit from a knitting mill in Italy, and for other products, from a knitting mill in Australia. Merineo uses local cutters and makers in Melbourne to sew all of its products, paying them in accordance with Australian laws. The brand also prefers to use local Australian suppliers and services for everything it requires. Merineo has licenses to use the Made in Australia logo and Woolmark logo on all of its products.

Sustainable

Merineo uses sustainable and natural fibres such as merino wool and organic cotton in its double layer baby and toddler sleeping bags. The brand sources merino wool from Australian farms that practice sustainable farming and uses unbleached organic cotton printed with water-based inks. Merino wool is a circular fibre that requires less water to process into fabric and is 100% biodegradable, while the textile factories used by Merineo hold sustainable certifications for their practices. The brand also minimizes its global footprint by using local makers and packaging products in sustainable materials like FSC certified cardboard boxes and calico bags. Merineo prioritises sustainability in all decisions, even if it results in higher financial costs.

Responsible

Merineo supports the Australian community by using Australian merino wool, local suppliers, and manufacturing their products in Australia. The brand donates products to charities like Friends of Epworth and fundraisers for schools. The founder volunteers on local community boards and committees, including serving as a voluntary director of Mainly Music Australia. Merineo keeps costs low and acts responsibly by having direct relationships with suppliers and wholesale customers and not using box packaging for wholesale products. The brand aims to discourage fast fashion by creating "slow fashion" collections that are long-wearing and not gender-specific to avoid wastage.

I loved the story behind the brand, which really helped me understand the “why” behind it. I loved the intricate weaving, the product doesn’t feel heavy or the stereotypical “wool” feel that you would associate normally with a merino wool type product. It was lightweight and did not seem to irritate my newborn’s skin.

I really enjoyed the fact that they pride themselves in using Australian products to make the clothing, it being manufactured within Australia also impressed me!

Delightfully soft and stretchy, snug and yet breathable for bub to wear. There’s none of that itchy wool feel, this is beautifully smooth and delicate against the skin. I love that this bodysuit is made in Australia from Australian grown merino. Also being 100% merino, it is temperature regulating and can be a wardrobe staple for all seasons – Gorgeous!
